A treasure is found!
Caleb, 7, has been reading for some time and read so well! He will read to his younger sisters and will grab a pile of books on a variety of topics. He hadn’t really embraced the chapter books until recently. For Christmas, my mom gave him “Daniel Boone” – a Childhood of Famous Americans Book. He did really well with it so we grabbed a few more from the library.
However, we found an unexpected treasure on Tuesday afternoon. The girls have read the Betsy book by Carolyn Haywood. Her name caught my eye on the shelf and I suddenly remembered that she has written some books on a little boy. So I grabbed the one that they had; Eddie and Gardenia.
Instant hit! Caleb started reading it Tuesday night and finished it today. He has told me all about it! A boy, a pet goat, a ranch and real spurs. Does it get any better at age 7? I don’t think so!
And he has requested more. For now, he will settle for Buffalo Bill.
