Surgery Update and Correction
Let’s handle the correction first. It was surgery #5. Oops. He had two surgeries around 3/4mths that were just 3 weeks apart. Brain cells are turned on now.
Now the update….
Thankful for daddy’s phone..we arrived for check in at 9 and he didn’t go back for surgery until almost 12.
Naturally, he wanted daddy to go back to the OR. A parent can go back until the kiddo is asleep. Last surgery, they wheeled him in on a bed. Monday he walked himself in the OR. Big kiddo. He hated the PJ’s. He made it clear that he would not be taking them home, lol.
The surgery went well. Dr. Van Aalst was pleased with how it all went and that he had more healthy tissue than he expected. So not only did Caleb get the nostril area worked on but his nose should be a bit more prominent. He may have a Burroughs’ nose before it’s done. Now sure if he is excited about that or not, lol.
He handled recovery well. As soon as he was alert, he was asking for food. And more, please. And could I have another pack of crackers. And some more juice. Yes, a Sprite would be great. And how about another round of crackers. Needless to say, we left the hospital much earlier than expected. He ate all the way home. Good thing he didn’t have a restricted diet this time around.
We took it easy on Tuesday and just did a lot of relaxing. However, today we were back to the grind. Chores – check. School – check. Playing outside and causing me to freak out over every little thing that might bump him in the face – check.
He is doing very well. One more day of the antibiotics. He still is taking some pain meds but not as often. He also had two teeth pulled so his mouth is just generally sore. However, he is managing to not miss a meal.
Just a few snapshots…he was missed by the girls….
Day after surgery, already reading to his sisters.
A close up. He is very self-conscious about how he looks right now. It is driving me crazy that I can’t clean up all that blood. Under the tape (which is protecting the sutures) so no cleaning until Tuesday. Hard to tell but there are little tabs coming out of his nose. They are connected to the stints. Kind of like straws up your nose. Sounds comfy, eh?
Today, back to pounding a metal rod into his sister’s foot using a rock. No I wasn’t worried he was going to bust himself in the mouth. Really.
He is bounces back so quickly. However, he is right now curled up on a loveseat in my bedroom. The spot he has chosen to sleep until the stints and sutures come out. Does a mommy heart good.

Praying for your little guys speedy recovery. It’s amazing how resilient they are but it always seems to take us a bit longer to recover, we hate to see our little ones suffer.
That is one beautiful boy you’ve got there. Praying he heals quickly
I am cracking up at the rod in his sister’s foot. You are worried about him popping himself in the mouth? What about that rod actually going through the croc? Too funny!
