Little Conversations
Caleb sleeps on the top of a triple bunk. I’m short. After everyone is in bed, I always walk through for one more round to make sure everyone is in bed and settled. When I go into Caleb’s room, I reach my hand up and he reaches down and we say our last goodnights. It is now a habit. The other night as we are doing our secret little handshake, he says, “Momma, your hands are always so soft.”
Be still my heart! He had no clue how he made my day. I often rub my hands and think how I really need to use lotion more. Maybe I’m doing better than I think!

Lydia is my delicate, fair skinned redhead. You know, the one the mosquitoes love to munch on? She has never been big on the great outdoors. She has a fine appreciation for the comfort of the air conditioner and a high disdain for humidity. That makes for rough living in the South. When the heat and humidity hit in full force, I have to force her to have some fresh air.
Today was a lovely southern summer day, full of heat, humidity and bugs. Ahhhhhh…….. This was around 9am, by the way. Everyone went outside to ride bikes and kick a ball around before it became too hot. You know, around 9:30am. Lydia passed on the opportunity.
She informed me, “I’ll go outside when I can smell the snow in the air. That is when I like to be outside.” She is going to be inside for a good, long while.

Lydia and I are working through Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading. We had tried a different approach to learning to read and I decided we needed a change. OPGTTR is going really well. I would not say that she enjoys it but she is doing really well. She would probably prefer to be able to just pick up a book and read but well, a little hard work isn’t going to kill her.
So today she is ready a little story and the word “stand” is in the sentence. She begins to sound it out, then pauses and says “stand”. Exactly. Great job, Lydia.
She then informs me, “I was sounding it out and then I saw it had “and” in the word so I knew it was “stand”. Yep, I know something.”
This was said with much certainty. Yes, my Lydia LuLu, you know something.

Very cute. Well, this is completely off topic, but i was finally getting around to putting Lisa’s blog on my roll and now i can’t find it. I can only find her website. Does she still have a blog?
