The Pirate Queen

I was expecting The Pirate Queen to be a predictable, light read that would hopefully be engaging and enjoyable. How wrong I was!

In The Pirate Queen, Patricia Hickman introduces us to Saphora Warren. She is a woman who had it all….or at least that is what others see. Her home is going to be in Southern Living, her husband is a successful plastic surgeon and they have three adult children on their own. But as the dust dies down after the SL photo shoot, we see Saphora packing to leave. Leave her magazine cover home and successful husband. But as she is preparing to leave, her husband, Bender, walks in to inform her that he is dying of cancer.

We continue to journey with Saphora as she give up the solace she was seeking to take care of her dying husband, we meet her family, friends and new faces that help build this beautiful story of faith, hope, love, grace and forgiveness. Beautiful forgiveness.

Saphora discovers that she is good enough for her family, that she loves deeply and is loved deeply. We meet a sweet young boy named Tobias that is fighting his own battle but offers amazing wisdom to Saphora and those around him. Accusing a minister of stealing leads to her discovering her Savior.

The Pirate Queen had me smiling and crying page after page. I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of this story and how it all intertwined so beautifully. I couldn’t wait to see how it would end and the end was so bittersweet. Hopefully, you will enjoy The Pirate Queen as well.
