As a homeschool mom who loves to research curriculum, I was familiar with Greek -n-Stuff even though we had never used any of their products. Several months ago we had the opportunity to use for the purpose of review one of Greek -n-Stuff’s Bible studies.
I Can Study Acts Alone With God (KJV) is a Bible study designed for upper elementary students and up. The presentation of the material is simple and straightforward making it an excellent independent Bible study. Through the 52 week study, with prayer, Scripture memory and daily reading, your child will become familiar with the book of Acts and learn how to read and understand Scripture.
The study also includes “sidebars” that give extra information to help the student understand parts of Scripture. It may explain what “flogging” is or who “Gamaliel” was. “Think and Pray” sections provide application. They help the child to take the Scripture he read and think of how it applies to him.
I had my 11 year old daughter use the I Can Study Acts (she was 10 when she started it). It was a completely independent study for her. I would check in with her during the week to ask about what she was reading and make sure it was getting accomplished.
It encourages starting out with prayer and then practicing your memory verses. Then you read the selection for that day and answer the questions. There are just a few questions each day and scripture reference is given to aid the child in finding the answers.
The questions are “reading comprehension” questions. The answers can be found straight from the text. They are not “thinking” questions. For upper elementary, I think that is a reasonable expectation and further “thinking” questions would be handled by the parents. I Can Study Acts is great for helping your child to come familiar with the Bible and help them later be able to “dig deeper”. I think the studies would be helpful to a child beginning to have a personal devotion time. It helps them focus on the Scripture and learn from it.
Greek -n- Stuff provides four I Can Study books: Jonah and Ruth, 1 Samuel, Esther and Acts. They are available in KJV or NIV. You can view sample pages here. Greek -n-Stuff also has samples in their catalog which you can request here.
