A small, but yummy, tradition has been formed in our family. A tradition we look forward to each week. Sunday afternoon ice cream. It began innocently enough. A random Sunday here and there became every Sunday afternoon. It is often just simple vanilla. Every now and then we go a bit wild with mint chocolate chip or cookies and cream. While we don’t put out a full ice cream bar, I do like to have a few toppings or maybe some cones to make it a bit more fun. Simple toppings like caramel syrup, chocolate syrup or something to sprinkle on top. I must confess that none of these toppings really make my heart pitter patter.
However, there is one delicious topping that I love on my ice cream. Magic Shell. Yes, that lovely hard chocolate coating that makes ice cream perfect. Just don’t read the ingredients list. And the price. Ouch! Do you know how quickly you can go through a bottle of Magic Shell with 9 ice cream eaters? Very quickly.
When I stumbled across a recipe for Homemade Magic Shell…that consisted of two ingredients….I knew I had to give it a whirl. I found the recipe at Our Best Bites via Pinterest. All that was needed was coconut oil and chocolate. 8 ounces of chocolate and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Since we don’t have a microwave, I mixed them together on the stove top.
Our Best Bites recommended high quality chocolate. I just used some chocolate chips we had on hand and there were no complaints. Homemade Magic Shell received two thumbs up from the tribe.
