I was able to complete three selections from the 1960s Newbery Medal Winner and Honor Books. I decided to use one as a read aloud. This has been a fun way to get my children involved beyond just helping me pick which books I want to read. The other two I read on my own.
Rascal by Sterling North (1964 Honor) was our read aloud.
For my personal reading I read Animal Family by Randall Jarrell (1966 Honor) which was a bit different than I expected.
After enjoying The View From Saturday by E. L. Konigsburg, I chose Jennifer, Hecate, MacBeth, William McKinley and Me, Elizabeth (1968 Honor). It didn’t top The View From Saturday but it was a good read. I passed it along to my daughter (11) last week and she really enjoyed it.
Now to make selections for the 1970s Newbery……
