The World’s Greatest Stories ~ Review

When I heard of The World’s Greatest Stories, I was very excited to review it. The World’s Greatest Stories are word for word reading of Scripture by actor George W. Sarris. While reading different accounts in Scripture, Mr. Sarris dramatizes with different voices, background music and sound effects. The desire of The World’s Greatest Stories is to make Scripture come to life for children so that they can memorize Scripture and hide them in their hearts.

There are 6 Volumes of The World’s Greatest Stories:

*Volume One: The Prophets

*Volume Two: The Life of Christ

*Volume Three: Beginnings

*Volume Four: Joshua and Esther

*Volume Five: Joseph and His Brothers

*Volume Six: Defeating Giants

All six volumes are available in either NIV or KJV translations. You can hear a sample audio clip of each volume in either version. Volumes can be purchased for only $7.95 each.

Our Thoughts on The World’s Greatest Stories:

Volume One: The Prophets was the product we received for review. We were completely shocked at the presentation of Scripture. While I was aware that it would be a dramatized cd, I was not prepared for what we heard. The varying voices, music and sound effects were at time overwhelming and seemed totally out of place. After listening to The Blazing Furnace, one of my older daughters said that she felt the dramatization was mocking Scripture; it was very disrespectful to her.

While I was expecting a dramatized reading of Scripture, this CD was, I felt, pushing the limit. More entertainment than a tool to aid in memorization and listening of Scripture.  The “drama” was to the point that it overshadow the God’s perfect Word. And I think this is where personal beliefs on Scripture are key. I don’t feel that the dramatization is needed to make the Bible exciting and relevant for children. I think that simple reading and hearing of Scripture is all that is needed; Romans 10:17. And in listening to sample audio clips from other volumes, for our family, Mr. Sarris crosses a line in dealing with God’s Word that we aren’t comfortable with.

I  recommend listening to the audio clips and judging for yourself . Other crew members enjoyed The World’s Greatest Stories, so please take time to see other reviews.
