Sam’s current favorite song is You are Holy. He is constantly singing while playing the “guitar”. Naturally, he will not sing for the camera.

Very serious girl, Little Miss Martha.

And she just melts my heart with her sweetness.

Someone was very happy that mommy let him play with the water paint. I’m not sure which he enjoyed the most…the water or the paint.

And Sarah was intense about her painting. Very focused. It is nice to know that a simple container of paint and water will calm the Volcano, lol.

Mary is a great manager. She invited Sarah and Sam to do math with her. Sarah and Mary were having a contest to see who finished Mary’s math first. Sarah finished first but I wasn’t up to counting all the tally marks she made. Mary took the blue ribbon for math this time.

Dark is coming early and they have enjoyed running around while it is still warm out. Mary took this picture of the moon. It was such a beautiful, bright full moon!

I almost go her. She caught me. Bummer. I’m going to have to get firm with that girl and get a good picture!

And Mr. Cuteness likes to cuddle. He has learned to just grab his pillow and blanket and sneak into bed with big brother in the middle of the night. Precious!

The goofiness just overflows in some of the children. Hannah’s goofy level is at an all time high.

November is birthday season for us. The two boys have already celebrated their birthdays and Hannah and Sarah are this week. Birthday post coming soon!!!!!

I have stated before that my children all love music. Constantly we have someone on the piano, flipping through a hymnal, humming a tune, or singing a song. Often the girls will fall asleep at night with the radio playing the classical station and they enjoy it while doing school work as well.

How excited they were when the package from Maestro Classics arrived; Peter and the Wolf!

As soon as the package was opened the CD went in and we joined Peter in his adventure with the wolf…..

Maestro Classics is a classical music series for children and families that brings classic stories and symphony orchestra music together. Maestro Classics does a fabulous job of combining literature, classical music and education in an entertaining way.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Stephen Simon, narrator Yadu and Bonnie Ward Simon, elucidator present these classics to us.

In Peter and the Wolf, we join Peter on his adventure to capture the wolf. The music captures us and we can “see” what is happening as Grandfather scolds Peter, as the bird joins in the adventure. My children quickly became much better than I at recognizing each character’s music.

The CD offers more than just the story of Peter and the Wolf. Included on the CD is Peter and the Wolf with narration. After you have enjoyed listening all about Peter, you learn more about the composer, Prokofiev. We learn how wolves were a real part of where Prokofiev grew up, we learn of his musical genius and his love for his country. The biography was full of information but not overwhelming for the children. Surprisingly, my children have listened to the biography almost as often as the symphony itself.

For a mom who is a bit clueless when it comes to symphonies and the orchestra, this next feature is absolutely wonderful! The conductor, Stephen Simon, explains some musical nuances that Prokofiev used in Peter and the Wolf. Mr. Simon helps the listener to be more aware of the feel of the music for each character. Love this feature!

Then we had a bit of a challenge. Maestro Classics then presented Peter and the Wolf with no narration; just the orchestra playing the story. We listened intently to follow the characters along; the story so easily pictured in our minds.

After capturing the wolf for the zoo, we join together at Grandfather’s with an invitation to dance. Oh, what a fun time we had.

To enhance this classical experience, a 24 page program book with simple activities, such as a crossword puzzle or matching instruments game, is included. Answer can be found at Maestro Classics.

Peter and the Wolf has been well loved in our home. My 7yr and 5yr old daughters listen to it as they fall asleep each night. When we run errands, Peter and the Wolf finds its way into the van. We already have requests in for other CDs presented by Maestro Classics!

Mary was working on math corrections. She decided for this intense mental task she needed to sit directly in front of the box fan. As you can see in the photo this meant that her pages kept flying back and forth. Hannah was intensely watching Mary reduce, multiply and divide. If she was going to sit there, why not work, right? I told her to hold Mary’s page in place for her. Hannah was thrilled to help. But it might have been a bit too strenuous for her.

Yep, asleep on the job.

No worries. We did not let her rest long. Someone not paying attention ran into her face with a Little People School Bus.

One time dozing off on the job I could understand. But repeat offenses? And in the same week?

(Sam was removed from the sleep cuddle as soon as the pic was taken.)

I guess this shows that when Hannah needs sleep, she needs sleep.
